About this Project

The goal of this project was to design a website that enables individuals with curly hair to book an appointment with KrulmiKrul.

Background

Clients are experiencing difficulties in booking an appointment at KrulmiKrul, because they are insufficiently informed about the services offered. Due to lack of information, they find it difficult to book the right appointment that suits their needs. This results in a less pleasant experience for potential customers.

For the project, I took on the role of project manager, while receiving guidance from teachers through tutoring.

The client

The client of this project is KrulmiKrul. KrulmiKrul is a curly hairdresser based in The Hague.

KrulmiKrul offers services for curly hair such as curl cutting, treatments, styling and hair advice. Their goal is to help people embrace their naturally curly hair and teach them how to care for their hair.

Research

During the research phase of the project, the focus will be on investigating KrulmiKrul's target audience as well as her competitors. This will involve conducting interviews with the target group to gain insights into their preferences and needs. Using the affinity diagramming method, the information collected from the interviews will be analyzed and used to create Personas that represent the target group.

Persona:

Personas were used because two types of users emerged during the research. One target group that only needs such a website where they want to view services and the other target group that needs a website where they can make an appointment with the particular service.

Concepting

During the concept process, a creative direction is created in which a mood board and style guide would be present to visually visualize the design phase.

Creative Direction

The creative direction is to capture the mood and style of the concepts. In the creative direction, concepts will be created through a mood board to first capture the mood and then a style guide will be created to reflect the "styling" of the interface. Within the creative direction technique, 2 concepts were created based on some characteristics that the client wanted their website to exude.

The Concept

The concept for the website's interface must, above all, be user-friendly and exude KrulmiKrul's personality. Users should be able to navigate through the website quickly and easily. The concept uses an overlay page where the target audience can easily make an appointment.

The overlay page first consists of choosing a service, then the target audience can choose their own date and time, followed by an information form where they have to leave general information and lastly they get an overview of the appointment confirmation.

Style Guide

After presenting the two concepts to the client, the client felt that concept 2 was the best fit for her company. She felt that the blue and pink color combination gave the branding more life, it felt very clean and appealing but also retained the look and feel of a professional company. visualize the design phase.

Design

During this phase, I will begin to design the interface for the website. This design is based on the information I had gotten from the competitive analysis and the Personas I created.

Wireframe

The main goal of the website is to enable users to book a hair appointment with the right service. The main focus of the design is on the booking process, which is why the "make an appointment" button is prominently displayed on the homepage and remains visible while scrolling.

Research has also shown that users want to see a portfolio, an alternative contact method and an overview of the services offered. Given these secondary and tertiary goals of the website, they were designed to be simpler to maintain an uncluttered and neat layout.

Hifi-Prototype

Using the pre-made wireframes, I started with the hi-fi prototype. While designing the hi-fi, I experimented the most with the use of color.

I tested the first version of the hi-fi with an expert on ambience. When designers test the mood of the hifi prototype against the style guide, they ensure that the design fits the brand identity and conveys the right mood. As feedback, I received to use more of the images highlighted in the style guide and to put forward more of the pink color, otherwise the design remains too blue.

Testing

During this phase, I tested the interface for the website.

User Based Testing

For the mobile website, I conduct a usability test, testing atmosphere and usability. The mood test assesses whether the design matches the brand identity and what overall impression it conveys. The usability test examines whether users can easily navigate and find what they need.

After working on the project for 15 weeks, I am pleased to present to you the finalized Hi-fi prototype for KrulmiKrul;
